World Standard – あさがお (Asagao)
Recorded by two young men in one of their parent's home in Tokyo in 1982. They set out to record a collection of songs to fill a cassette, and what came forth is a playful, intentional grouping of songs with mandolin, guitar, and ukulele as the focused instruments. Home recorded folk-adjacent music, leaning towards optimism, where the physical space it was recorded in colors the songs.
This work, Asagao, is the first cassette work in a series of several demo tapes produced before the official debut of World Standard (produced by none other than Haruomi Hosono for NON-STANDARD in 1985).
