Warren Sampson – Traveller
Love All Day presents this lost suite of DX-7 and guitar meditations from 1987.
Following their exceptional Planetary Peace reissue last year, Warren Sampson’s Traveller is a more nuanced and remote contribution to the growing catalogue of person and synthesizer convergence. Reminiscent of peer reel-to-reel records from K. Leimer and contemporary noodlers Andrew Chalk / Elodie, Sampson’s compositions express a distinct locale: Minnesota. Pieces like “On the Reef” present a glassy, midwinter hue; while “Traveller on a Mountain Road,” describes the coexistence of human and nature, a solitary yet friendly walk amongst snow-smattered surrounds.
At once expansive and intimate, minuscule and infinite, this work has prompted Michael Klausman to remark that Traveller “magically collapses that vast big open into the reflection found on a single frozen leaf.” Edition of 250.
