Vernal Equinox - New Found World
Vernal Equinox’s New Found World is the first release from Linus Booth’s Aural Medium label, and a perfect entry into his own musical history and influences. Growing up in Kitchener, Ontario, he met members Steve Brenner and Timothy Rempel when they worked shifts at the local synth shop, spending their free time in a basement studio writing the album before recording it in Airtight Studios and self-releasing it in 1988.
Clad in a sentimentally transcendental New Age cover inspired the influence of Windham Hill, New Found World is forward thinking and environmental, a synthesized deep dive evoking frosty Ontarian winters spent in warm smokey basements with nothing but time and imagination. Sometimes silken and soaring (“Autumn Sunset”), others drum-lathered, proggy dance (“Motion of Sound (Cosmic Speed)”), this timely 2019 version is remastered from the reels and includes an unreleased track from the og sessions.
