Andras and Instant Peterson's previous compilation for Efficient Space, Midnite Spares, collected remarkable oddball pop and electronic works by Australian artists from the 80s and 90s. Now the two jam bandits sync their watches to headier hours for 3AM Spares, a collection of local 12" releases, CDRs and pulls from the archives of Melbourne community radio station 3RRR FM. Their work results in a diverse array of electronic dance music from the 1990s and beyond, like the most perfect DJ set you can imagine. Highlights include General Electrik’s “Leather Lover,” a foggy, stimulated house track originally recorded for Sydney’s Club Kooky compilation Gay In The Life: Adventures in the Queer Underground; Turrbal-Gubbi Gubbi artist Maroochy Barambah’s tribal house interpretation of traditional Gubbi Gubbi song “Gurri Nina Nami”; and Ian Eccles-Smith’s breezy downtempo collage “The Slaughtering Eye.”
