Shanti Celeste – Tangerine
Shanti Celeste’s debut album on her own Peach Discs relaxes and extends her penchant for lavish synth textures over bouncing rhapsodies, bassy boisterousness served in hypercolor hallucinations and playful, scuffling sassiness. Unlike her previous offerings, decidedly and effectively ecstatic, Tangerine allows space for softer, deeper, slower and altogether non-dance expressions that demonstrate her prowess as a producer from different angles.
Vocals appear throughout, carrying this bag of bangers into personal realms also touched on by the twinkling kalimba interlude, “Natura,” recorded at her dad’s place in Chile; and the atmospheric bookends “Sun Notification” and “Moons,” delivering sweet melodies drenched in stardust. Banger alerts on sleek snaker “Infinitas,” progressive reeler “Sesame” and ravey, levitating breaks of “Want”. The cover is adorned with a Shanti painting, welcoming you holistically into her world.
