Rupert Clervaux - After Masterpieces
Rupert Clervaux (beloved Paralaxe Editions and Berceuse Heroique alum and Beatrice Dillon collaborator) presents After Masterpieces, their complex, revelatory debut full-length album on Whities. Structured as six “recitals” of Clervaux’s poetry, elucidated by sonic landscaping with support from Anna Homler, horn player Eben Bull and singer Sian Ahern; these sonic elucidations, which take on lives of their own / beyond language as the album progresses, are woven from dark ambient atmospherics, minimalist piano and voice interplay and cathartic free improv. The words are mimetic and mnemonic in theme, philosophical musings on the rise and fall of canonical narrative, which abstract and collapse into freer forms as Homler sings in her expressive, invented language at its close, like a guardian angel of equivocal meaning. Equally conscious object design from Alex McCullough and Kia Tasbihgou includes an accompanying poetry chapbook attached with customer elastic band around the jacket.
