Peter Zummo – Frame Loop
New York composer and trombonist Peter Zummo became especially well-er known to the greater world as a collaborator of Arthur Russell: his gentle, jovial horn a signifier on many Russell songs, complimenting the croak of amplified cello and the offbeat attitude of hand-stamped percussion. Frame Loop is a 1984 recording of unreleased material from Zummo's Six Songs suite in his archive (Six Songs was the basis for LATERAL PASS (Foom 2014), his award winning score for modern-dance choreographer Trisha Brown’s work). It includes Russell on amplified cello, Bill Ruyle on marimba, and Mustafa Ahmed on congas, with Zummo on trombone and euphonium. Similar in spirit and style to Russell's Instrumentals (recorded in 1977) formed of repeated, simple, melodic phrases danced around festively and spontaneously. Reissued in 2018 with full-color Nancy Graves artwork printed on a matte card sleeve.
