Oren Cantrell - Kobzir
Seance Centre present a brilliant reflection on the past, present and future of deep listening practice and microtonal expression. Kobzir is an album of vocal overtone-centred music from NYC based musician and filmmaker Oren Cantrell. Early creative evolution for Oren unfolded in and around Boulder, Colorado; where he played in bands, made zines and other visual work. His continuing practice draws strongly on this experimental, DIY spirit around music, filmmaking, static art and poetry; as well as the teachings of mystic, philosopher, spiritual teacher and composer George Ivanovich Gurdjieff. Kobzir is specifically inspired by Gurdjieff's “Fourth Way,” its four parts combining trance-inducing throat singing and vocal polyphony with muted trumpet call, electronic shroud and laced with intuitive percussion textures. A minute edition of only 100 LPs with riso-printed covers and 50 hi-bias cassettes, we’re thrilled to offer our few remaining copies of the album following Oren’s elevating performance at Commend in early April, 2019.
