Michal Turtle - Return to Jeka
Music from Memory returns to the Michal Turtle treasure trove, giving life to Return to Jeka - an intricately woven tapestry of eight previously unreleased pieces from the British-born, Swiss-based, visionary living-room musician.
Literally recorded in the hearth of Turtle's parents' home in Croydon, South London (and later in his own apartment in Camden Town), these compositions, recorded between 1983 and 1985, cradle an intimate and domestic sensibility, even those that were intended as backing music for student dance performances. The sonic collage was aided by his collaboration with dancer Jonathan Smart and sculptor Lucianne Lassalle, who contributed guitar and vocals respectively to a each flourishing creative partnership.
Expect more off-kilter, synth-guided pop rumblings serving as a sinuous foundation for Turtle's soft voicings, plus a couple of really janky dancefloor tracks.
