Mahbunzi Nahgo Pihndi – D.Ebando
The latest Good Morning Tapes offering, this time on vinyl, is the aptly titled Mahbunzi Nahgo Pihndi (‘All the Healing Green leaves of the Forest’) D - Ebando.
The listener is taken on a ritualistic journey flush with percussive rustles and the rich, resounding sound of one of the world's oldest musical instruments, the sacred Mougongo, a musical bow often used in Iboga ceremonies.
D Ebando is the realized experiments of Brian Close, known for his work in the New York avant-duo Georgia. It is in part a nuanced homage to the powerful force that is Mother Nature and inspired by initiation ceremonies and musical traditions of the Bwiti / Fang people of Gabon in West Central Africa.
Listening gently activates sleeping parts of the brain, sonically prodding a deeper consciousness.
It's organic trance music that is not cold and mechanical, but lit with a melodic spiritual incandescence. Warm electro-acoustic earth resonances unfold into swirling kosmiche-tinged psychedelic space.
