Lolina – The Smoke
Lolina, the artist formerly known as Inga Copeland, gives just enough potent insight while not stripping away the mystery on her latest offering The Smoke.
The music within has a hazy atmosphere as the title suggests, with pawn shop instrumentation and Lolina's vocals draped over lethargic trip-hop footing. The Smoke's breezy intensity is accented by Lolina's half singing, half spoken-word delivery that is both seductive and stirring, lurching along with a real urgency. Her poetic repetitions are melded with open-to-interpretation lyrics and glitching, off kilter electronics for an insistent playfulness in the dark.
