Kufuki – Dodome Ep
The debut release from Japan Blues’ transparently named Les Editions Japonais is Kufuki’s Dodome.
A Tokyo-based four-piece hailing from varied genre backgrounds, Kufuki’s mission with this EP is to “electronify” Minyo, traditional Japanese folk music. The group reinterpret “Torobayashi”, a 20th century work-song released in the 1960s by Masao Suzuki that partly popularized the genre; as well “Akusejima”, an older song named for a tiny remote volcanic island in Kagoshima, using voice, synthesizers and percussion. Japan Blues contributes a dub version of Torobayashi.
