Kilchhofer Anklin – Moto Perpetuo
The scintillating, labyrinthine epic from last year, The Book Room, left a lasting impression of Kilchhofer’s adaptability and singularity, splicing IDM thoughtstreams with electro-acoustic eminence steeped in somatic mysticism. Returning to Marionette in the new year, Kilchhofer allies with Swiss drummer / percussionist Michael Anklin, who contributed to the former album. Together they deliver Moto Perpetuo, an ode to the chimeric notion of perpetual motion, where no energy is lost while constantly being created.
Through a dynamic system of organic and electronic instrumentation, with each depending on the constancy of the other, Kilchhofer’s living modular synth process derives and processes voltages from Anklin's drum playing. Fluttering / flurrying textural drifts meet more beatific swirls, a warm and cosmological vision. Kilchhofer and Anklin cite their natural surroundings as primary influence for this music, driven by a quest for an "ur-klang; a primordial, ancestral music.”
