Jonquera - Formative Dubs
The cover of Jonquera’s new FORMATIVE DUBS EP could be a starter pack for eccentric Lyonnais dance music - slides, ancient forks, a polymorphic cave, a tree-stump monster and a catch-phrase “Hilarious Dudubs!”. One half of lauded duo The Pilotwings, Jonquera (aka Guillaume Lespinasse) delivers five slices of widely-sourced, nutrient-rich, non-trad techno to BFDM in his inaugural release.
Primer “Umamami” is a ten-minute spooky and subby churner paving the way toward “Hell Reggaeton,” which splices with infernal EBM for a wormhole odyssey down below. A choral spectrum in “Smecta” appetites the speculative, dub-charged rockpool of “Jonquera at Caluire On the Rocks”. “Escroc Voice in my Head” squeezes out an ending in the key of industrial psychedelia a la River Yarra, but more menacing.
