Concentric Circles excavates another brilliant idiosyncrasy from the vault of 80s and 90s independent recording in Knotpop, a gem of lunatic new wave / surrealist mutant pop buzzing with saccharine spoken word by Bay Area duo Ixna. Members Jay Cloidt and Marina La Palma studied at Mills College with Robert Ashley and David Behrman, honoring their mentors' works in equal embrace and disruption of the avant-garde through exploitation of pop music themes with an all-nonsense-or-nothing attitude.  Highlights include the devious downtempo nursery rhyme “I can’t remember,” the drum-machine driven din below gossip-choir in “Somebody Said” and long-form guitar and toy synth jam “Flashlight.”
