Instant Music – Instant Music
Hailing from Munich, the members of Instant Music found each other at art school and bonded over their mutual love of The Velvet Underground, Kraftwerk, and Italo disco trailblazer Giorgio Morodor. Turn to this 1981 DIY release, reissued by Dark Entries, for a delicious medley of kraut, space disco, and dada. In true dadaist fashion, deviant instruments such as a washboard and metal parts make an appearance alongside a keyboard, guitar, and Dr. Rhythm drum machine. Marion Siekman's understated vocals complement the alluring flatness of Bernd Scholl's singing on this stand-out record of the movement known as "Neu Deutsche Welle," aka "New German Wave."
