Forma - Semblance
If their previous work, Physicalist, presented a vision of richly textured, sprawling atmospheric ambience with kraut colored embellishments, Semblence follows a theme of glittering veneers, IDM frequencies that convey complex, built-up environments and their escapist counterparts.
After a spiritous opening in "Crossings," where rolling drums motivate a psychedelically arpeggiated journey, we cross the threshold into a more mirrorlike, pensive world. "Ostinato" is reminiscent of a minimalized (and slowed down) Hieroglyphic Being incantation. "Three-Two" unfolds in a recognizably Forma-esque style, a tribute to collaborative capacities in a synchronous ensemble, growing / glowing organically and symbiotically with the addition of tribal drum patterns to facilitate total transportation. "Rebreather" resets the experience with flute song wafting over an expertly crafted new-age environ. "Cut Up" is an iconic tribute to inspirations past and future, pairing a mechanical beat with blended text read by Yuan Liu. "New City" wields acoustic instruments with powerful nuance, begging repeated listen. Semblance departs with an orchestral morsel in "Ascent," prompting an upward-facing departure from the listener.
