Don Slepian - New Dawn: New Music for Digital Orchestra
In 1980, Don Slepian self released a series of cassette albums of New Music For Digital orchestra. New Dawn rose in 1983 featuring live recordings with “a Korg PS3100, Mellotron voices, Mellotron flutes, analog tape echo, and analog recorder" to create pieces 'geodesic' & 'cosmic geometry.'
"360 degrees of freedom is overwhelming in music, and you need not truly begin to find freedom until you put yourself under extremely narrow constraints" explains Slepian. Drawing inspiration from performing & recording with Javanese Gamelan ensembles, each piece is a peaceful whimsical ethereal terrain and boundless flow.
