Delroy Edwards – Dubonnet
Delroy returns to Apron Records for the second time (following a 2013 split with FunkinEven) with Dubonnet, six raw and tender workouts of an aspirational ilk. “Live and Let Live” opens with a dependably moreish drum pattern, heated with earworm bass and melody lines. “Fat Dynamics” follows a similar structure, in tenderized, funky expression. “Funny Styles” transports the listener into the production room, a Rube Goldberg machine of hits and sounds. “Dubbonet” highlights marching snares and melancholic chords, while “In Orbit” resigns from earth with shattering kit and 80s disaster synths. “How High is the Moon” slows and reduces, a metronomic ode of earnest ambition.
