Daphne Oram & Vera Gray – Listen, Move And Dance Volume 1
Fantom Phonographique, releases a reissue of Daphne Oram & Vera Gray’s Listen Move Dance; originally released in 1962. During the early ‘60s Daphne collaborated with artist, Vera Gray in Kent England who focused on arranging classical pieces by Bartok, Stravinsky; while Daphne constructed sounds through tape recordings, ring modulators, and other electronic devices in order to create a orbiting space scape of electronic orchestrated sounds.
Listen, Move, and Dance Vol 1 was initially released as a radical movement of the BBC program to encourage and help school children to dance more. Moving away from the conservative ways of BBC, Daphne resigned her position to pursue her passions of creating Oramics Studios for Electronic Composition located in a rural village in Kent where she created sound compositions that transformed images into music by drawing on 35mm film. These ‘Oramics’ were then featured for many sound installations, films, and theater productions.
