Ami Shavit - Yom Kippur 1973
From Sub Rosa’s exceptional Early Electronic Music series comes the premier release of Israeli multimedia artist Ami Shavit’s Yom Kippur 1973. A professor of philosophy and art and established kinetic artist in the 1970s, Shavit’s sound work has recently been excavated by Finders Keepers and and Dead Cert. A meditation on Shavit’s experiences during compulsory military service, encountering harrowing experience with mass death and injury, in Yom Kippur 1973 Shavit attempts the seemingly impossible task of artistically representing war. In his final sound experiment ever recorded Shavit employs deep, swirling, synthesized texture across three parts to express ‘The soundtrack of my mind. Sounds derived from the war which still and always live in my mind.'
