Alessandro Pizzin - Received: Selected Works 1981 - 1993
Portland's Incidental Music continues their streak of expertly-curated reissues with a compilation of Italian keyboardist / organist / producer Alessandro Pizzin. Spanning material across the eighties and early nineties, this retrospective adds a unique spin of experimentation to a well-trodden canon of ambiance established by his contemporaries. For proof, check the title track "Received", whose detuned arpeggios entangle a sloping drone,or the hypnotic "Sunset On The Hill", a piece commissioned for a natural birth center in Venice.
A crucial name amongst an inventive tradition of Italian minimalism and one operating parallel to forerunners of Japanese environmentalism, Pizzin fits neatly into an already robust framework of spatially-minded, Fluxus-inspired ambient music.
