Masayoshi Fujita & Jan Jelinek ‎– Bird, Lake, Objects

$23.00

This recently repressed collection of music and sounds from Masayoshi Fujita & Jan Jelinek elicits a bewildering combination of both nearness and a feeling akin to an out-of-body experience. A deliberately pared down recording environment fostered a careful performative approach. Every action and movement is chronicled in the recording, giving the intimate movements a place in the arrangement of deeply playful and sending tones. Other sounds outside the studio space, like street noise, footfall, even fire engine klaxons, made their way and unintentionally became a part of the communing between the two composers.

On ‘Undercurrent’ one can hear the rustling of Fujita’s prepared vibraphone. His techniques expand the sound of the instrument rendering it anew. Coupled with Jelinek’s work on other instruments, the definition of the sounds are blurred into a cohesive unit of expression. Soft warbles and clattering tones from the vibraphone’s metallic slabs dance together in ‘Workshop for modernity’, evolving into an almost kraut-like pulse, then quickly dissipating to the rustling electronics and gestures orchestrated through the act of performance, captured by the single mic in the space.

Reissued on Jan Jelinek's label Faitiche.
