Henri Texier - Amir
French double bassist and composer Henri Texier is perhaps best known for his 1977 album Varech, in which he channels influences from across time and space into a singular, hybrid vision of modern music to come. Through the humble trinity of bass, oud and voice, Varech pulls, unravels threads from minimalism and emerging new age jazz, folk, Indian, North African and Celtic music, offering a proto-fourth world approach to meditative music that endlessly inspires, Spiritual music that follows no one maxim. Its predecessor, Amir (1975), though less revered, traces an even more primordial site; a scorched, alchemical zipline from country missive to bop and chant. In 1979, A Cordes Et A Cris continued this story with emphasis on the wilder side of ambient composition and wordless song, bouncing from near total-stasis to euphoric lark. A trio of reissues in limited availability from Disques JMS.
