MoM016 - Leo Takami - Felis Catus and Silence
For the sixteenth entry of Commend’s MoM (Music of the Month) we highlight Felis Catus and Silence, an arresting collection of compositions from Tokyo-based guitarist Leo Takami from our extended family at Unseen Worlds.
Evoking the opulent, polymath aesthetics of jazz-fusion and the organic music of Takami’s home country, the compositions that make up Felis Catus and Silence construct a liminal space that is all at once welcoming, serene, and uncanny. Takami’s music is patient, yet unwavering and persistent in its world building. There is an atmosphere of potentiality conveyed in the universality of Takami’s pieces, positing the question, “Are we living the dream? Or are we dreaming the life?”
Through conjuring a relentlessly jammier tendency than the subversive ambience of his previous release, Tree Of Life on Time Released Sound, Takami’s compositions glide high above worlds both seen and —yes — unseen. Felis Catus and Silence is an essential addition to our MoM series, and the first of 2020. A limited run of 30 Obi strips designed by Will Work for Good and riso-printed by Keegan Mills-Cooke will accompany each copy purchased from Commend.
