MoM007 - Sebastian Gandera - Le Raccourci
The wistful worlding of French composer Sebastian Gandera, also called Éric Morin, begins with childhood piano lessons from a family teacher, and matures into early adult self-reflection and experimentation from behind the closed door of a university dorm room.
Equipped with his humble toolbox of a piano, field recorder, sampler and four-track recorder; and his palette of slate clouds, humdrum train journeys, children and dogs’ voices, windswept walks and anonymity, Gandera would explore a classically informed, DIY operated musical landscape with tenderness and simplicity.
Le Raccourci collects shy but potent musical meditations from 1988–1994, previously just orbiting as cassettes and a lone CD split, or hibernating as forsaken DAT recordings. Julien Dechery, who assembled the ceremonious Sky Girl compilation from 2016, arranged this mine into the quietly grand review worthy of Michael Kucyk’s Efficient Space label.
