Jonnine – Super Natural
Super Natural is Jonnine’s first solitary offering and a secret portal into her multiverse. An integral if enigmatic force in the antipodean underground, Jonnine is renowned for over a decade’s service with signal Oz wave stargaze project HTRK, but has earned Renaissance woman standing for her undertakings in conceptual art projects and creative direction and production. Spellbinder and storyteller, her writing process begins in her dreams, where she seeks recurring symbols to be transformed into works with ritual focus.
The four entries in this EP weave wisdom and confession into a tale of self knowledge and deception, fixation and dependency, devotion and prophecy, underwritten by the parallel powers of the paranormal and the subconscious. Metered by tripped rhythm and glacial guitar-playing, the songs are lit up with luminescent keyboard melodies and fleeting audial apparitions. Jonnine’s enveloping alto moves throughout as a vehicle for those innermost voices, which doubtless have plans of their own.
Written and produced by Jonnine, with additional production and mixing from long-time collaborator and friend Zebrablood (Blazer Sound System), Super Natural was first devised as an imaginary soundtrack to a future film by the two - a surreal thriller set in Venice. Jonnine also recruited the instrumental alchemy of HTRK bandmate Nigel Yang, Mona Ruijs and Conrad Standish (CS + Kreme). It is at home on Good Morning Tapes, their third vinyl release.
