Laurent Thibault - Mais on ne peut pas rever tout le temps
Adorned with an enchanting Naïve painting by Henri Julien Rousseau from 1907, Mais on ne peut pas rever tout le temps was released in France some 70 years later as an impressionistic, progressive album with striking dynamic breadth empowered by acoustic instrumentation.
In four parts, each dedicated to a Rousseau work, Laurent Thibault’s group apply a palette of serene and pastoral folk, tender jazz, and deranged art rock in their own musical paintings. For music this (frankly) psychedelic, it’s notable that no synthesizers were used - rather, a tapestry of acoustic instruments were treated to create cosmic and enveloping textures harmoniously woven together.
Reissued in 2017 by Theleme Records.
